Destroying Tokyo

Haven't been in Tokyo for many years. So I guess I have to use this tumblr as my stomping grounds now.

Just so you know what you're getting into: I like slash, het, and femmeslash.

I have a dirty dirty mind. And an equally dirty mouth. Online at least.

Current fandoms: Buffyverse, Avengers, Journey into Mystery, Legend of Korra, Legend of Zelda, Young Justice, and a few others

In the unlikely event that you want me specifically to see your posts, tag them "destroying tokyo" with a space rather than a dash, please.

I don't think dashes work so well with tagging...and I refuse to change my username...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-13-lara-croft-attempted-rape-will-make-tomb-raider-players-want-to-protect-her

Players will want to “protect” an increasingly-battered Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, its executive producer has said.

The series’…

Well that sucks :/

“When people play Lara, they don’t really project themselves into the character. They’re more like ‘I want to protect her.’ There’s this sort of dynamic of ‘I’m going to this adventure with her and trying to protect her.’”

Um, no, speak for yourself.  I’m totally Lara when I play Tomb Raider.

“The ability to see her as a human is even more enticing to me than the more sexualised version of yesteryear. She literally goes from zero to hero… we’re sort of building her up and just when she gets confident, we break her down again.”

Because G-d forbid a woman character be naturally confident!  G-d forbid a woman explorer travel the world and steal priceless relics just because she thinks it’s a fun way to spend her Saturday night!  We can’t have that, so better break her down and give her a tragic backstory.

Also, what happens if we suck at protecting Lara?  Does the player have to watch her get raped?  That doesn’t sound traumatizing at all!

this is kind of only tangentially related but I think you would be interested in this topic:

Women in Refrigerators

it’s a list of women in media, specifically comics, that have been “killed, raped, depowered, crippled, turned evil, maimed, tortured, contracted a disease or had other life-derailing tragedies befall her”

there are also some pretty interesting articles about it there

it’s also mentioned on tvtropes

it seems like this is happening to Lara
